The two initiatives, Make Belgium a Fair Trade Country and Fair Trade Municipalities, aim to promote fair trade in Belgium, at both national and local levels. They have joined forces to work with the different regions of the country, and so Make Brussels-Capital a Fair Trade Region.
This initiative is supported by the Brussels-Capital Region Fair Trade Platform, coordinated by the Fair Trade Municipalities campaign (supported by Oxfam-Magasins du monde, Miel Maya and Fairtrade Belgium) and Enabel’s Trade for Development Centre. Other members include BFTF (the Belgian Fair Trade Federation), Brussels International and hub.brussels, representatives of municipal authorities and other associations, as well as local citizens.
The initiative is also supported by Pascal Smet, Secretary of State for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation for the Brussels-Capital Region.
