2020 barometer on fair trade
Every two years, the Trade for Development Centre publishes a barometer on fair trade, a survey that aims to present the awareness of fair trade in Belgium and the opinion and behaviour of Belgians on this topic. This year, questions were asked about changes in purchasing behaviour in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

The Enabel Trade for Development Center monitors developments in fair trade and sustainable trade. This survey aims to paint a picture of how Belgians consume.
This study investigates whether and how Vietnamese Fairtrade cashew nuts can conquer a solid position in the world market. The study was carried out by Globally Cool on behalf of the TDC.
The Trade for Development Centre (TDC) and Fairtrade Africa partnered with Euromonitor International to better understand the hot beverages market both in B2B (foodservice and institutions) and B2C (retail) channels, and the potential commercial opportunity for Fairtrade certified brands in Kenya and the wider region (Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania and Rwanda). The market research particularly focuses on the Fairtrade products as tea and coffee as the main hot beverages consumed by Kenyans but also on the powdered hot drinks such as hot chocolate.

Ethical products in South Africa
The Trade for Development Centre and Ask Africa worked together on a market study to look into the popularity of ethical products in South Africa. The purpose of this study is to analyse the attitude of South Africans towards ethical products, certified Fairtrade, MSC, FCS, etc.
The objective of this study is to support tourism companies in Peru and Ecuador, especially those focusing on sustainable tourism, on how to access the European market. Vanilla is the second most expensive spice after saffron, because growing the vanilla seed pods is labor-intensive. Despite the expense, vanilla is highly valued for its flavor. Synthetic vanilla has been growing in popularity over the years. While the world trade in natural vanilla is at around 2,000 tonnes of cured beans or approximately 50 tonnes vanilla extract, the demand for synthetic vanillin in 2010 was more than 50,000 tonnes a year. Globally, companies prefer the chemical alternative because it is cheaper.
