NACFA : Nyame Akwan Citrus Farmers Association

Formed in October 2007, NACFA brings citrus farmers around Kumasi to have a familiar voice and seek good market and pricing for members. Fairtrade certified since October 2012, and the association provides help and capacity building activities to bring on-board the economically and agriculturally active members in the Ashanti region to produce citrus responsibly and sustainably. Currently, the association has a total acreage of 1333 (appr. 533 hectares) and producers a total volume of 14500 metric tons.

From 2020 to 2022, the TDC finances a project aimed at adopting more environmentally friendly production systems. The supported actions are as follows (€23,433.75):
• Reduce members’ use of conventional methods of soil management, pest and disease control in fields. Shifting members’ operations to more organic production to protect biodiversity in soils and small water bodies around plantations
• Building the capacities of members in climate-smart soil management practices
• Increasing women access to gender-sensitive technologies (use of simple mechanized pruners and brush cutters) to enhance their participation in all activities
• Empower women through the provision of administrative and management skills

Here are the expected results :
• 1.109 members adopt a more organic form of production
• Improved knowledge of 109 association members on climate-smart soil management practices
• Increased participation of women
• Women empowered in skills for administrative and managerial roles
• 109 beneficiaries adopt agroecological practices/ecosystem conservation
